Now that you have downloaded your theme from, http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ you then need to extract, that is unzip the archive to your local computer.  This will create a folder, you simply upload this via FTP into the themes directly for of your Wordpress Blog Site which is shown below

Your next step is quite simple.  Head to your wp-admin page of your site, in the structure: www.yoursitename.com/wp-admin You will get a page the same as below

Log in with the username and password that you set-up during the wordpress installation.  This will take you into the Wordpress Blog Dashboard.  This is the dashboard of my Melbourne Cup site.

Click on ‘Apperance’ on the right hand side.  This will open up the Manage Themes page automatically

Here you will see a complete selection of the themes that you have upload, as well as the default Wordpress Themes that you can use on your blog site.  Simply click a theme will open a new window that provides a preview of what you site will look like with that theme.

You then simply need to ‘activite’ that theme to make it yours.  The activate button is on the top right-hand side.

There, you are done and can start to blog away and start to generate traffic.  There is a lot more to using wordpress then simply posting.  There are a lot of plug-ins that really enhance your site and can add a lot to user experience, everything from social bookmarking tools, automatically insert adsense to postings and many more.
